The new 7-Step approach for FMEA development
Find out which steps have to be followed for FMEA development after publication of the manual and how you can meet the new standards. Integration has never been more important in the context of FMEA than it is today. It is not enough to create FMEAs separately from the product development process using traditional tools such as spreadsheets. The new standards make FMEAs an integral part of the product development process, from the first requirement to the final product.
Step 1 – Planning and Preparation
As an important step, “Planning and Preparation” helps to achieve more transparency in the analysis and a more efficient process through a clear delimitation of the scopes to be considered.
Step 2 – What does the structure analysis include?
The second step analyzes the structure of the respective FMEA (System FMEA, Construction / Design FMEA, Process FMEA)
Step 3 – What has to be considered in the function analysis?
In the third step of the FMEA, the functions described by requirements and the specifications get assigned to the system element.
Step 4 – How can the failure analysis be performed directly with functional and structural analysis?
In step 4 of the FMEA, causes and effects and their relationships are identified. Find out how the failure analysis can be carried out directly with the function and structure analysis
Step 5 – How is the risk evaluation carried out with Action Priority?
Step 5 is about risk analysis. Its purpose is to identify risks by assessing their significance, occurrence and discovery.
Step 6 – Optimization – What now?
In step 6, the focus is on increasing customer satisfaction.
Step 7 – Results Documentation – Basic Data for the Future
In order to pursue the continuous improvement approach, the results are documented in step 7 – both for internal and external reporting.

According to the qualification, in severity, occurrence and detection, the qualification of Action priority AP shall be granted.
